Research outside of lesson: Casino Royale rated 12
Camera -
- The sequence starts with a low angle long shot, of a large building to show how big it is. Subtitles in the bottom left hand corner tell us that this is in Prague, Czech Republic. A car parks outside the building.
- Another low angle shot of a man getting out of the car (even though the car isn't in shot, we assume he's getting out of it because he raises up in shot as if he's getting out of it) with the building behind him tells us his status is high because the audience are looking up to him.
- A low angle shot of escalators going up shows us the scale of the building.
- We cut to the man standing in the escalator, this time however is a mid close up of his face from a high angle. It then cuts to the floor number on the escalator above the door, as if to say the higher he goes up, the more his status is going to change.
- Now we are in a corridor, but it's not shown using low angled shots, it's now at body level, the shot tracks him as he walks down the corridor.
- A panning shot changes from low angle to mid angle, and then focus' on the back of a chair.
- Close up on the man's face as he stops, his face is blank, he knows someone is in there with him. He turns around and the focus pulls to James Bond, who is sitting on the man's office chair.
-Shot Reverse Shot between the man and James Bond, both at low angle so we don't know which one is in power.
- Match on action as the man opens his draw to reveal a gun hiding in there.
- Quick flashback scene of James fighting a different man in a bathroom, an over the shoulder shot from James' view indicates we want him to win and not the man, as if we are cheering him on and want to see what he does to win.
Mise en scene -
-Costume - James and the office man are wearing smart suits topped with big winter coats, whereas the man in the bathroom is wearing casual wear with a Hawaii shirt and sandals. Perhaps indicating the flashback is perhaps in a different country with a much hotter climate.
-Props - Office chair, Desk, Gun
-Set - The outside of a corporate building, escalator, corridor, office, bathroom
Editing -
- What's clever about this is that they chose to film the first four minutes in black and white, but as soon as the title sequence begins it changes to full 21st Century FX in high definition colour. This is a nod to previous James Bond films because black and white gives it an old feeling, it's a statement saying that was then and this is now.
- Each cut is long to raise the tension.
Sound -
- Foley's (Diegetic Sound) - Car door, footsteps, escalator, door, door smashing.
- When Bond is discovered, the tension raises with the music because a string orchestra plays out one note as it gets higher and more unbearable.
