Opening titles review and research - Kate

Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy is an American TV drama set in a hospital in Seattle USA .

As opposed to a black screen , the credits appear on a montage of moving images.

The images convey that the main character is a  young female surgeon.

This opening title is a simple show of contrasts between surgeon life and her own personal life , indicating that they are the same thing i.e contrast between eyelash curlers and surgical equipment. Each shot flows into the next , such as the shot with the liquid from the  IV drip poring out and cutting to a martini glass being filled (they look as if there from the same shot) .

The  first two title credits are placed on blank  backgrounds and move as the image changes into the next  this puts emphasis  the actors name. The other credits are on fast moving backgrounds some slide down the screen and others zoom in and out , the final credit has the same effect as the first two as it is who the show is written by. Each title is central to the screen.

The non diegetic music adds to the theme about it being a very dramatic  and  unpredictable hospital and the staff with in. " nobody knows where they might end up nobody knows" .

From analysing this opening I dont think it would work for out opening however we have taken a few similar ideas : Music and titles.

Matching up similarities between props - we could of done this with a gun and a pen if we had kept the idea of wrighting a letter.

Match on action - not a complete match on action as the on screen objects are different , I really like this idea that is being used throughout the opening tites.

Additonal Note :

Just watched an episode of Grey's Anatomy from season 8 - the title credit first fadeds to blood red  carrying on from the flashin ambulance lights and then to white with black lettering and then to back to red - to symbolise TRAUMA - \This for of titling would of worked really well with our film! - would of been great to see it before it has such an impact on the audience , would also reflect that people have been hurt.
